Those tariffs fell hard on Georgia. China is a major buyer of the state's $6.7 billion poultry industry, its largest, and imposed retaliatory tariffs of 52% on Georgia pecans, the state's second-biggest farm export. Farm bankruptcies climbed, and the administration's answer, again, was to offer federal checks to cover losses its own policy created. Kemp cheered the tariffs anyway.

Georgia is the only state that makes people prove they work to get Medicaid, through a program called Pathways to Coverage. It was meant to cover nearly a quarter-million low-income Georgians; instead it has enrolled a small fraction of that at high administrative cost, and ProPublica found it mostly blocks the vulnerable from getting covered. Trump's "big, beautiful bill" now imposes that same work requirement nationwide.

Greene was among Trump's most devoted allies for five years. When she broke with him, mainly over releasing the Epstein files, he pulled his endorsement, called her "wacky" and a "traitor," and said she had "gone Far Left." She chose to resign rather than face a Trump-backed primary, saying she refused to be "a battered wife hoping it all goes away." In his party, loyalty runs one direction.

Biden had won Georgia by 11,779 votes, a result the state had already confirmed with a full hand recount. On an hour-long recorded call, Trump pressed Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, to overturn it, and suggested he could face criminal liability if he refused. Raffensperger told him, "the data you have is wrong." The call became central evidence in the Fulton County racketeering case.
