A Democratic congresswoman who ran for president in 2020 to defeat Donald Trump, calling him “corrupt” and “unfit”, Tulsi Gabbard became his Director of National Intelligence. She used the post to declassify intelligence and accuse Barack Obama of a “treasonous conspiracy,” a claim her own side helped take apart, before resigning in 2026.

She declassified documents and referred Obama-era officials for criminal prosecution, alleging a "treasonous conspiracy." The Associated Press found the documents did not support the claim, and four separate investigations had already confirmed Russia interfered to help Trump in 2016. John Bolton, Trump's own former national security adviser, said she had "imagined evidence that doesn't exist," calling it "a campaign to save her job." She resigned in May 2026.
