Presidents have kept their hands off the Federal Reserve to protect the economy from political meddling. In August 2025 he moved to fire Governor Lisa Cook over a fraud allegation about mortgage paperwork predating her appointment. The Supreme Court blocked it 5–4, with the Chief Justice writing she was denied due process. Its own opinion states she was the first Fed governor fired in the bank's 111-year history.
