In February 2025 he fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, the Navy's chief (the first woman on the Joint Chiefs), and others, and later fired the Army's top officer during the Iran war. His defense secretary had publicly demanded the chairman’s firing, vowing that any general tied to “DEI” had to go. The senior Democrat on the Armed Services Committee said ten generals and admirals were fired without explanation.
