Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina voted against the Medicaid cuts and, within a day of Trump threatening to back a primary challenger, announced he would not seek reelection. Marjorie Taylor Greene, once among his most loyal allies, broke with him mainly over releasing the Epstein files; he branded her a 'traitor' and 'wacky,' and she resigned rather than face a Trump-backed primary. The warning to the rest of the party was the point.
