In late July 2026, the FBI, the EPA, and the federal cybersecurity agency CISA, all part of his own administration, warned that hackers had struck municipal water systems in at least seven states, degrading operations at more than 30 facilities in Minnesota, with officials examining possible Iranian involvement. At a televised Cabinet meeting, Trump rejected that and blamed the state itself: 'I don't think there was an Iranian cyberattack. I think that Minnesota is behind it,' he said, calling the state 'grossly incompetent' and its governor 'corrupt.' The source of the attacks remained under federal investigation.
