On August 10, 2026, Trump signed an executive order he called the “Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations,” bypassing the scientific advisory process that normally sets the schedule. It orders the measles, mumps, and rubella shot, a single combined vaccine used for more than 50 years, split into three separate injections given at different times; drops the recommendations for COVID-19 and flu shots for children; and directs the Justice Department to sue states that do not allow religious and medical exemptions. The American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and other medical groups said the changes are not backed by evidence and put children’s health at risk, noting that U.S. measles cases have reached a 35-year high.
