As the administration surged deportation operations, federal immigration officers shot 14 people between September 2025 and February 2026, according to NBC News. Among the dead were two U.S. citizens in Minneapolis: Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive-care nurse, and Renee Good, 37, shot in her car. Many shootings involved agents firing into moving vehicles, a tactic policing experts have spent decades trying to end. Video repeatedly contradicted the administration’s first accounts. DHS said Pretti had pointed a gun; a CNN analysis appears to show an officer taking a gun off him after he was shot. In a Chicago killing, DHS said its agent was seriously injured being dragged by a car, but footage caught the agent describing his injuries as “nothing major.”
