He promised to fix the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool for about $1.8 million; the cost ballooned to $14.7 million. The Interior Department bypassed competitive bidding, giving the main contract to a company that had previously worked on Trump's own properties, after he said he had “a guy who's unbelievable at doing swimming pools”, and a second no-bid contract to a firm owned by a Trump donor. The paint later peeled and the pool turned green.
