His 'big, beautiful bill' cuts federal Medicaid spending by about $1 trillion over a decade. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates it will leave 11.8 million more people uninsured by 2034, largely through new work requirements and added paperwork, and it threatens rural hospitals across the country. Three Republican senators voted no, Thom Tillis and Susan Collins over the Medicaid cuts, with Tillis calling them 'devastating' and 'the greatest form of hypocrisy in American politics,' and two House Republicans joined them.
